LACIV 199, JUDGMENT ON SPECIAL VERDICT. This form is used in Los Angeles Superior Court after a jury trial when the jury has returned a special verdict. A special verdict is a verdict in which the jury answers specific questions of fact, but does not render a general verdict. In other words, the jury's verdict is based on its findings of fact with respect to specific issues in the case, rather than a broad finding of liability or damages. After the jury returns a special verdict, the court must then enter judgment based on the verdict. LACIV 199 is the form used to request that the court enter a judgment consistent with the jury's special verdict. The form requires the party submitting it to provide information about the case, including the names of the parties and the date of the trial. It also requires the party to specify the questions on which the jury returned a special verdict and the answers provided by the jury. The party must then set forth the legal conclusions that flow from the jury's special verdict and request that the court enter judgment consistent with those conclusions.
